The important work we do with disadvantaged young people in Glasgow and Manchester could not happen without the generous support of our funders. It costs approx. £620 to mentor a child for a year. We ask the schools that if possible they make a contribution towards the cost of the mentoring and the rest we commit to fundraise ourselves. Our funding structure each year roughly follows this pattern:
- 60% – Grant-making bodies: including Garfield Weston Foundation, Big Lottery Fund, Robertson Trust and others
- 25% – School contributions: we ask schools to contribute where possible
- 10% – Fundraising events: held at various times throughout the year
- 5% – Friends of Citywise: supporters who give us individual donations on a regular basis by standing order
Become a Friend of Citywise
Could you join us and become a Friend of Citywise? With increasing economic uncertainty, and school budgets being squeezed, Citywise is looking to increase our base of support. Reliable, unrestricted income allows us to deliver long term, sustainable mentoring to those who need it most, and to plan for the future. Even some of our student volunteers find £5/month and their contributions really do make a difference! Watch the video below to see some of the things your money would support:
Our summer projects in Manchester & Glasgow: every year Citywise runs summer holiday clubs for young people in schools across Manchester and Glasgow, and this year we need your help! Since 2012 the government has funded summer holiday clubs that help disadvantaged young people transition from primary to secondary school. In Dec 2015 it was announced that this funding would no longer be available, so we have the challenge of raising the funds ourselves to make sure no young person misses out. Each summer project costs approx. £8500, and this summer we hope to run 2 in Manchester and 1 in Glasgow. We have a team of runners fundraising this year. Click here to read more and to support them!
