GM Citizens Mayoral Assembly
In May 2017, communities across Greater Manchester will decide who takes office as the first ever Mayor for our region. They will lead decisions on transport, social care, housing, young people, skills and public sector reform which will significantly affect the lives and prospects of people across our communities.
Citywise has joined Greater Manchester Citizens in order to represent the needs of the young people we work with, and hold those in power to account. Specifically, with the new Mayor of Greater Manchester, we will be joining with other organisations to shape a strong civil society agenda around what matters most to the families and communities we work with. One of the young people we work with recently had the chance to meet the front-runner candidate, Andy Burnham MP. More here
We would like to invite you to join us on Monday 1st May 2017 as we seek pledges from the main Mayoral Candidates on how they will address these priorities, if elected on 5th May.
This major ticket only event at the Lowry in Salford will be the largest pre-election Assembly in the run-up to the election which will bring together our fellow member organisations including those from faith groups, trade unions, NGOs, schools, colleges, student unions, housing associations and other community groups. The event will not be a public meeting nor a political hustings. Amidst joyful celebration and powerful stories, we will seek to establish a public and accountable relationship with whoever becomes our Mayor on a common good agenda.
There will be music, drama, comedy, plays, powerful testimonies and of course hearing from the candidates themselves. We want people to bring families and children. This is for ordinary families and people across our community.
Please fill out the form below to register for the event. Once we have an idea of how many people are attending from each of our partner schools, we will begin making plans for travelling/meeting up with other Citywise attendees. If you have any questions please contact luke@citywise.org
