Why Mentoring?
We believe in the transformative power of mentoring
Mentoring is about inspiring young people to want be the best they can be, for themselves and for others. The power of active listening and championing a young person on their character growth journey is invaluable.
Positive, committed and dependable role models make the best mentors. If you’re passionate about young people’s growth, helping them discover their passion and purpose in life, and like the sound of our core values, read on.
The big win-win
You will give of your time, thoughtfulness, passion and energy, but you will also get more than you expect! Each year our mentors comment on how much they have benefited from mentoring, it enriches their experience as a student and our curriculum holds so much value for anyone, not just 8 – 12 year olds!

‘I loved how much Citywise taught me. The sessions that we worked on with the children, were so relevant to me as well, learning all about the importance of self-awareness, goal setting, and resilience’ Read more about Jess’ volunteering journey.
What’s involved?
- You’ll receive training during your recruitment and at various points in a project to make sure you feel fully equipped to be an incredible mentor!
- You will always be in a group with other mentors and will be overseen by a Citywise Project Leader. They will manage your project whether that’s a one-to-one mentoring session with young people or a less formal community group like an after-school club or holiday camp!
- Being able to consistently show up as a mentor is really important. It will help you get to the know our curriculum and programmes as well as support children in the best way.
- We offer lots of other opportunities in the course of a year including internships, the chance to fundraise, have your own mentor if you would like, and after you finish we’ll provide a certificate and reference as you step into whatever is next!
