As part of an exciting new partnership with the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California, Citywise is delighted to be able to start offering support to entire families. Complementing our existing work with young people, we’ll be designing work that helps parents raise confident, caring kids!
One of Citywise’s core beliefs is that parents are the primary educators of their children; it’s the home environment that most powerfully shapes what kind of people children become. For many years we have been working with children in their other main formative environment – schools – and we are excited to be deepening our holistic support by starting to offering services to whole families.
In February 2018 we heard the incredible news that our grant proposal had been successful, and that along with only 15 other organisations globally we had been selected as a partner in the Greater Good Parenting initiative. As well as secured funding for 2 years, taking part in this programme provides us with an incredible network of like-minded organisations, as well as 1:1 academic advice to help us develop our work in line with up-to-date research in the fields of character education and positive parenting.
Raising children is one of the most wonderful and difficult tasks anyone can embark on, and Citywise wants to do all we can to love and support the families in our local community.
Over the past few months we have been speaking to parents in our local community about what support they would find valuable as they go about their important job of raising children. We have been encouraged to meet so many wonderful, positive parents who are doing a great job already, but all of whom have acknowledged how hard it can be sometimes. Raising children is one of the most wonderful and difficult tasks anyone can embark on, and Citywise wants to do all we can to love and support the families in our local community.
We are delighted that the support from Greater Good has allowed us to create a brand new role in our small team, and we are currently advertising for a Family Services Manager. If you or anyone you know is interested in applying, please take a look at the job advert!
In the coming months we’ll be announcing more developments, but in the meantime please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you are a parent living locally to our Manchester office, or would like to support this initiative in some other way.
