We asked one of our mentors, Cat, to explain why she loves volunteering at our summer camps and why they’re a great option for children during the holidays.
“I love volunteering with Citywise because it is such a supporting and nurturing community. I volunteer every year at various Citywise projects, but my personal favourite is the Summer Camp!
Our summer camps take place mainly outdoors where we get active and have lots of fun in the sun! In a positive, safe and educational environment, new friendships flourish and smiles are everywhere. It’s a time when both mentors and children build relationships whilst they get stuck into arts and crafts activities and sports games.”
“It’s great to see the kids grow in confidence across the week and talk about how much they enjoy themselves” (Mentor)
“This summer, our theme is wellbeing. The camps are going to be all about learning, understanding and exploring our emotions and how they contribute to our mental wellbeing. We want children to understand the importance of healthy eating and physical exercise habits, but we also need to know how to take care of our minds at the same time. Looking after our brains is just as important as our bodies!
Through creative and engaging activities, this year’s Citywise Summer Camp will also provide a brilliant opportunity for children to make new friends, develop their confidence and, most importantly, have fun!”
And what do parents and children say?
- “In the sessions I have learned that it is good to be happy and healthy. The camp made me happy – it was like a good dream! (Child, aged 8)
- “The camp has been awesome and fun!” (Child, aged 9)
- “I’ve not seen a group of people before who care so much about the children.” (Parent)
